Pet Licensing

Pet Licenses

Any person who shall own, keep, or harbor a dog or cat which has attained 7 months, shall annually apply for and procure from the Department of Health of the Township of Cedar Grove a license and official registration tag with license number. All dogs must have a valid rabies vaccination certification. Please be mindful that the Township Ordinance limits 6 pets to any one residence address.

Cats

The Township Code requires licenses for any cat seven months of age and over. Licenses must be secured by September 31st of each year. We also require each cat to have a valid rabies inoculation.

Note: Cat license fees are valid from September of the current year until August of the following year.

The cost for all cats is $10.

Dogs

Any person who shall own, keep, or harbor a dog of licensing age in the Township shall, in the month of January of each year, apply for and procure from the Township Health Officer a license and official metal registration tag for each such dog so owned, kept or harbored and shall place upon each such dog a collar or harness with the registration tag securely fastened thereto. The State of New Jersey also requires every dog to have a valid rabies inoculation.

Note: Dog license fees are valid from January through December of the current year.

Dog & Cat Rabies Clinics

  • Winter Rabies Clinic: February 11, 2026
  • Spring Rabies Clinic: 2026  Date TBD
  • Fall Rabies Clinic: 2026  Date TBD

The program will be held at Town Hall 525 Pompton Avenue. Dogs will be vaccinated from 6 pm to 6:45 pm. Cats will be vaccinated from 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm.

The Township of Cedar Grove and the Cedar Grove Health Department will be sponsoring a free Rabies Clinic for pets in need of license renewals and who are not currently vaccinated. The New Jersey State Health Department now recommends re-vaccination every two years. No pet licenses will be issued without an up-to-date rabies vaccination.

Dogs and Cats should not be fed for 6 hours prior to the rabies vaccination. Each dog and cat must be on a leash or in a carrier and must be accompanied by an adult.

Licenses and applications will be available at the clinic. Reminder: All the dogs and cats within Cedar Grove, must be licensed every year.
