Pet Licenses
Any person who shall own, keep or harbor a dog or cat which has attained (7) months, shall annually apply for and procure from the Department of Health of the Township of Cedar Grove a license and official registration tag with license number. All dogs must have a valid rabies vaccination certification. Please be mindful that Township Ordinance limits 6 (SIX) pets to any one residence address.
Cats
Township Code requires licenses for any cat seven months of age & over. Licenses must be secured by September 31st of each year. We also require each cat have a valid rabies inoculation.
CAT LICENSE FEES ARE VALID FROM SEPTEMBER OF CURRENT YEAR UNTIL AUGUST OF FOLLOWING YEAR.
All cats : $10.00
A late fee of $10.00 will be assessed as of October 1, 2019
Dogs
Any person who shall own, keep or harbor a dog of licensing age in the Township shall, in the month of January in each year, apply for and procure from the Township Health Officer a license and official metal registration tag for each such dog so owned, kept or harbored and shall place upon each such dog a collar or harness with the registration tag securely fastened thereto. The State of New Jersey also requires every dog have a valid rabies inoculation.
DOG LICENSE FEES ARE VALID FROM JANUARY – DECEMBER OF CURRENT YEAR.
Spayed / Neutered : $12.00
NOT Spayed / Neutered : $15.00
A late fee of $10.00 will be assessed as of MARCH 1, 2020

Dog & Cat Rabies Clinics
For your convenience, The Township of Cedar Grove hosts 3 Rabies Clinics every year in February, May & September. Exact dates will be announced here, on our cable station, Community Bulletin Board & in the local newspaper. Please see all details below.
Winter Rabies Clinic – (2021 Date TBD)
Spring Rabies Clinic – *Due to the pandemic and Governor Murphy’s social distancing restrictions, we must postpone our Spring rabies clinic, usually held in May. We hope to reschedule in July 2020. All violations due to unlicensed dogs due to rabies expiration will be suspended. Please check back for updates.
Fall Rabies Clinic – (2020 Date TBD)
Sue Portuese, Health Officer is pleased to announce that the Cedar Grove Health Department will be sponsoring a FREE Rabies Clinic for pets in need of license renewals and are not currently vaccinated. The New Jersey State Health Department now recommends re-vaccination every two years. No pet licenses will be issued without an up-to-date rabies vaccination.
The program will be held in the Firehouse Bays, 525 Pompton Avenue. Dogs will be vaccinated from 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM. Cats will be vaccinated from 6:45 PM to 7:30 PM.
Dogs and Cats should not be fed for (6) six hours prior to the rabies vaccination. Each dog and cat must be on a leash or in a carrier and must be accompanied by an adult.
Licenses and applications will be available at the clinic.
